Target Audience:
This session is open to students, recent graduates, tech enthusiasts, AI researchers, agricultural professionals, and anyone interested in the intersection of AI and agriculture. No prior knowledge of AI or agriculture is required.
Description:
The agricultural sector, a cornerstone of many economies, is undergoing a transformative shift with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Farming, central to humanity’s sustainability and advancement for over 12,000 years, remains crucial, especially as we face modern challenges. According to the United Nations, there are about 570 million farms globally, with nearly 90% being smallholder farms less than five acres in size, often managed by and supporting a single family.
As Africa’s population is projected to reach 2.6 billion by 2050, the continent will need to increase food production by up to 70% to meet the demands of its growing population. This pressing challenge comes amidst resource scarcity, climate change, and socio-economic difficulties. AI-driven innovations hold the potential to revolutionize farming practices, enhance productivity, and ensure sustainability, thereby helping to meet these demands.
This session aims to delve into the innovative applications of AI in agriculture, highlighting real-world implementations, challenges, and future trends. Participants will gain valuable insights into how AI is revolutionizing farming practices, addressing the food production needs of a growing global population, and contributing to the sustainability of agriculture in the face of unprecedented challenges.
